Jorvik’s Vikings Return to York Apr-2017

Visit York's Jorvik Viking Centre from York Caravan Park

York’s amazing Jorvik Viking Centre has reopened in Coppergate. The Jorvik experience was a casualty of the December 2015 floods when it’s exhibits became submerged in 50cm of water. The centre depicts the Viking way of life in the 9th Century around a re-creation of a Viking street in Jorvik, the Viking name for York. A highlight of the visit is a guided-transporter tour of wonderful dioramas depicting life, farming and work in Viking times. Many of the artefacts were recovered from a four year excavation of a Viking settlement 9 metres below today’s street level in the city centre. This yielded buildings, clothing and 40,000 other archaeological items.
