Jorvik’s Vikings Return to York 28 May – 1 Jun

Visit York's Jorvik Viking Centre from York Caravan Park

The Viking Festival returns to York for the Spring Bank Holiday. The sons of Jorvik will be pitching tents in York City Centre and recreating Viking life as it was in the 9th Century.
It’s a perfect time to visit The Jorvic Centre in Coppergate. The centre re-creates a Viking street as it was in 9th Century Jorvik, the Viking name for York. A highlight of the visit is a guided-transporter tour through authentic dioramas depicting life, farming and work in Viking times. Many of the artefacts were recovered from a four year excavation of a Viking settlement 9 metres below today’s street level in the city centre. This yielded buildings, clothing and over 40,000 other archaeological items.
